What is a Neck Liposuction?

Neck liposuction, also known as submental liposuction, is a surgical procedure to remove excess fat from the neck and jawline area. It targets concerns like a double chin, enhancing facial contours for a more youthful appearance. A small incision is made, and a thin tube is inserted to suction out unwanted fat. This procedure can be combined with other facial treatments for optimal results.

Am I a candidate for Neck Liposuction?

Ideal candidates for neck liposuction are individuals who are bothered by excess fat deposits in the neck and jawline area, commonly resulting in a double chin or lack of definition.

Candidates should be in good overall health and have realistic expectations about the outcome of the procedure. Candidates need to have stable body weight and not be significantly overweight, as neck liposuction is not intended as a weight loss solution but rather to improve facial contours.

Additionally, candidates should have good skin elasticity to ensure optimal results. Neck liposuction candidates are usually younger than 50 years old. Beyond this age, excess neck skin usually also needs to be addressed. A consultation is necessary to assess candidacy and determine the most appropriate treatment plan.

Procedure

Clients are expected to arrive on time for their scheduled appointment. We ask you to not drink coffee or caffeinated drinks on the day of your procedure. Wash your face thoroughly, ensuring no makeup or creams remain on your face the morning of surgery. Eat a good breakfast, as having food in your stomach will make you more comfortable and is helpful to prevent nausea. Wear a shirt that is easy to take on and off; buttoned shirts or zippered shirts are usually the best. We will have you change into a wrap or robe to wear during surgery. Do not wear any jewelry, including watches, necklaces, bracelets, and earrings. Do not wear contact lenses on the day of surgery.

Two weeks before your surgery, abstain from all alcohol and/or nicotine-containing products, as these can affect the healing process. One week before surgery stop all aspirin and all aspirin-like products (ibuprofen, Advil, Motrin, Aleve, etc.). If you would like to use arnica supplements to reduce bruising, these may be started 1 week before surgery and continued for a week after.

You will need an adult driver on the day of your surgery to bring you to the office and take you home. If your driver wishes to leave a cell phone number, we can call them with updates and pick-up time.

Upon your arrival for your procedure, we will answer any questions or concerns you may have, tailoring the experience to you individually.

Your Recovery

The first week after neck liposuction is a critical period for healing. During chin liposuction recovery, the compression garment should be worn as instructed to help control swelling and bruising. To allow for adequate rest, clients are usually advised to take a week off of school or work.

While sleeping, it is ideal to keep your head and neck elevated by at least 35 degrees using pillows. When you come in for your post-op appointment, you should have someone drive you to and from our office.

If you experience extreme pain or swelling, nausea, vomiting, or are uncertain about something, please call our office at 834-371-1610.

If you experience shortness of breath, fever, chills, or signs of shock, please call emergency services to get medical attention.
