Lip Lift

CURRENT Facial Plastic Surgery is a destination for Lip Lift surgery. Dr. Novis is specially trained in the modified lip lift technique to maximize results and minimize scars. This procedure reverses the aging changes of the lip to permanently restore a more youthful upper lip.

What is A Lip Lift?

A lip lift is a surgical procedure to permanently address a deficient upper lip. In young individuals with a small or poorly defined upper lip, a lip lift can better define the cupid’s bow and increase red lip show. In older individuals, lip lifts can address the telltale signs of aging – elongated white lips, loss of volume, wrinkles, and lipstick bleed lines. Dr. Novis is experienced and extensively trained in the most advanced techniques to deliver natural-appearing lip lift results.

Am I a candidate for

Ideal candidates for a lip lift typically exhibit one or more of the following concerns:

  • Long Upper Lip– Candidates may have a naturally elongated upper lip, resulting in a less youthful or asymmetrical lip.
  • Short red lip height– Individuals with thin or flat lips may desire a lip lift to create a more defined upper lip contour.
  • Facial balance– Candidates seeking a rejuvenated, more youthful facial appearance may benefit from a lip lift to restore harmony and balance to the lips and surrounding facial features.

Procedure

The procedure can be carried out while the patient is awake, using local anesthesia. The lip lift can be performed with other procedures and is particularly effective when combined with a face lift and neck lift. The incision is carefully planned to hide in the creases and shadows beneath the nose. Dr. Novis is meticulous about incision planning and closure to ensure optimal appearance of the surgical site. Sutures are typically removed after one week, and makeup can be applied after all crusting has resolved. The complete healing process may take several months. Results from a lip lift are permanent.

Your Recovery

After a lip lift, there are hair-fine sutures that are removed at 5-7 days postoperatively. The upper lip will swell, peaking 1-2 weeks after surgery. The thin incision line under the nose will remain pink for 1-2 weeks after suture removal, at which point it may be covered with makeup. Any persistent redness can be treated with a laser.

FAQ

How is a lip lift different than lip filler?

With normal aging, the lip elongates and loses the volume and definition in the cupid’s bow. Lip filler allows one to plump and highlight the existing lip, but only minimally increases the lip height. After a certain point, adding more volume to the lip will only cause it to protrude forward, giving a “duck lip” appearance, without creating an increase in the lip height. A lip lift addresses the aging problem of the elongating lip by removing a thin piece of the skin beneath the nostrils, giving more height and definition to the cupid’s bow.

What does a lip lift scar look like?

The lip lift scar is placed under the nostrils and disguised in the natural shadow under the nose. Dr. Novis uses a modified approach and is meticulous in incision measuring and planning to avoid unsightly scars. Careful attention to suturing removes any tension on the wound and optimizes the appearance of the lip lift site.

Is a Lip Lift painful?

The CURRENT lip lift utilizes carefully placed local anesthesia, allowing the procedure to be performed comfortably. Any pain experienced is similar to that of getting lip filler, but with permanent results.
